Is Winter Over Yet?

We reverted to winter again.  We have had a cold winter this year.  On Sunday we had hail, freezing rain and cold!  We got down to 19 degrees that night.  My little sprouts in the garden had just started to come up and now they are frozen and dead.  I will wait and see what might still grow.  It has been sad to drive around town and see the trees that had pretty white blossoms on them last week all full of brown flowers.  Our peach tree had a few blossoms open that that turned brown now.  So the fruit crop might not be very good this year to get a frost this late in the year.

Last week we had fun going to the Cub Scouts Blue and Gold banquet.  We had fun eating and participating in the evening.  Andrew was really excited about getting the kit for a pine wood derby coming up in April.  He is very excited about building his car.  On Saturday Neal helped Andrew put bird seed in his little bird house and hang it up in the tree.  We had seen some birds flying around it, maybe one will decide to make it its home.

Spencer lost his front tooth this week.  Finally it came out!  It had been holding on and hanging crooked for awhile.  The new teeth are coming in and it wont be long that he is so toothless.  Thursday afternoon Spencer was complaining about not feeling well and then lost his dinner at bed time.  He slept well and rested Friday morning.  But by Friday around noon he was feeling just fine.  So far no one else has been too sick.  We had all felt a little weak in our stomachs though.  I am glad it wasn’t too serious and we are all doing well today.

Ruth is trying to decide what fine art elective to take next school year.  She was sad to find out she has to choose between band and art.  She had been planing on learning the clarinet and be in the band.  Now she isn’t so sure and really wants to do the art class.  Yesterday we had the opportunity to go a clarinet recital at Baylor.  A member of our ward is working on a Masters in music and did a recital last night.  I took Ruth and we enjoyed hearing someone play the clarinet very well.

Caleb’s latest phrase that I enjoy hearing is “that’s amazing!” He says it often when he thinks something is cool.  He had fun Monday when we went to the museum.  They have a traveling exhibit on traveling the USA and had fun displays about places across the nation.  It is an exhibit for young children so it was perfect for him.  He loveed climbing in Yellowstone, camping in Tennessee and lighting the big apple in New York.  There was so much to do.  We will need to go back to play with it more.  Caleb had fun with preschool this week and gets so excited about letters.  He has been asking how to spell words a lot this week. He gets out letter toys and wants to spell things.  He also tries to say the first letter in words.  He will say things like “that is a thing that starts with the letter E, it is an elephant.”  We have started working on writing the letters.  He is doing better with his hand control.  He is also very excited about his birthday coming up and is counting down the days for it.

I took these pictures with my phone camera, to try it out.  Caleb was happily eating his snack we brought with us to the museum.  Most the pictures I took that day didn't turn out, they were blurry, so I will have to learn how to use the camera on my phone.

Saturday we enjoyed going to the baptism of a young boy in our ward.  Neal is their home teacher so we decided to all go.  The kids did great sitting quiet through it.  It was nice to go and support the family.

Sunday we had the special experience of doing a family fast for my Dad.  It was Andrew’s first time fasting.  Ruth also fasted.  Ruth got up in Sacrament meeting and bore her testimony on eternal families.  She told me afterwards that she felt she should get up because she felt the spirit so strong and wanted to say why she was fasting.  She also shared her feelings about her grandpa and it was sweet.  I am thankful for the gospel in my life.  It makes hard things easier to deal with.  After church Andrew told me he did fine fasting.  He was given a candy in primary and just put it in his pocket to eat later.  He said he wanted to make sure he fasted the whole time.  He bore his testimony to me before we had a prayer together to end our fast.  I am glad that the kids joined me in doing that.  It was special to teach them the reason for fasting.  We will continue to pray for Dad and that he can be comforted in this difficult time.

Neal and I had a fun date on Friday evening.  We decided to try bowling.  We both did pretty good. I think I got about 10 strikes that night in the three games we played.  It was fun to do something different.  Then we went out to eat dinner together.  It was nice to spend time together.  The kids had fun with the baby sitter too.
