February Fun

February is passing by quickly. I thought I would write and keep everyone up on things we are doing.

Caleb is so excited about basketball. We decided to sign him up to play with a team at the YMCA. He is so excited about it. It will start in mid March. He received his ribbon for the Reflections program, first place in Music composition. The ribbons were slow in arriving, he received the paper award before Christmas. He was excited to get a pretty ribbon. Caleb is happy that the primary boy activities have started. He had fun with the group two weeks ago. Tonight they are meeting and will be doing a Lego building competition. Caleb has enjoyed playing with his friend Seth. They play at school together, and have been to each others home to play this month and they are in the same primary class too. So they see each other every day. They have fun together. I had and IEP meeting for Caleb two weeks ago. He is doing well in school and I am glad that he is in the special education program and getting so much help to make school interesting. He is in 4th grade but is working through 5th and 6th grade subjects in math and Language arts. With our meeting we decided to increase his pull out time by an hour and now he is going to another teacher for an enrichment time right after lunch. They do more with the creative side of things as well as just doing interesting things for the gifted kids. He is enjoying going to that class.

Caleb with crazy hair. I did cut hair on all four kids
Monday. They look less shaggy.

Spencer is staying busy with reading. He is going through a series called “Warriors” about cats. I have seen it around but don’t know much about the story. He is really liking it and is always wanting time to read. Spencer did well at his jazz band concert last week. He played two short solos and did a nice job. This week is a jazz festival at our high school where he will play again. Andrew’s jazz band will also be playing at the festival. Spencer is the Deacon’s quorum president and is having some good experiences with leadership. Spencer and his friend Jonathan are the only boys in his age group but the year younger than him there are seven boys. So his quorum has a lot of young boys in it. Spencer is doing great helping to plan activities and teach the boys their duties.

Andrew started working on a marble works machine over the week end. He is building it from craft sticks we have had sitting around for a couple of years. He found an old motor and bike chain is is trying to automate it. He is pretty creative. Last Friday Ruth and Andrew didn’t have school because their high school was hosting a conference for all the state high school student councils. Andrew didn’t have much home work, so he started this project. Andrew is also preparing for the jazz festival this week end and I enjoyed listening to him practice this week end. Andrew is also working on his trains. The boys all enjoyed going to the model train club meeting this month.

Ruth is having fun with friends. She has gone out with groups at different times. She went on a
group date to a friends house where they ate dinner and played games. She got with a group of friends from school last Friday and hung out, they painted pictures and just had fun. She had a friend come here one night to visit. She enjoys being with her friends. She is enjoying the freedom of having a driving license with a car. Her friends came to our house one night and put TP all over her car with a plate of cookies on top. Ruth is also working hard at school. She took the ACT text and is glad that is done with. She is also busy working at Kumon every Saturday and Tuesday afternoons. She is a busy, happy girl.

I went to the dentist and also took all four kids this last week. I am happy to report that there were no cavities or problems to care for. We have had some winter weather and a couple of mornings with delayed starts to school. One morning Neal went into work, because it didn’t look bad here, but on his way south he got into very icy conditions. He made it to work and then an hour later there was an announcement that Sandia would close for the day. Neal just stayed there and worked. It was better than going back out on the ice.

Last week for Valentine’s Day Neal and I went out to eat Saturday evening. It was nice to have a quiet dinner together. Neal also brought me flowers that have been cheerful to look at. Neal worked hard this month to get the taxes done. It is always an accomplishment to get that done each year. Neal and I worked on a puzzle together. It was nice to sit and talk while we did it. I finished the last little bit this morning.

We enjoyed having Monday off of school for President’s day. The kids had fun being home and working on projects and playing with friends. I hope everyone is enjoying a good February.
