Summer Time

Our spring time went by quickly. It was different staying at home so much. The kids really missed being in school and with their friends. It was hard to do school things at home. I think the teachers made good efforts to help the kids, but it just wasn’t the same as being in school room on a regular schedule. I am glad that is behind us. Ruth was able to take her AP exams at home using the internet. That was a blessing that was available to her, she worked so hard in the classes. Now we are to our summer time routines. I keep encouraging the kids to work on educational pursuits and learning. We can always be learning. Caleb was happy to get his basketball from the school on the day when the kids could claim their personal things. The older kids emptied their lockers and returned text books. I guess that was the closure to the school year. A bit different from the normal activities they usually have.

Neal took Andrew and Spencer camping about two weeks ago. They enjoyed getting out and away from the computer. The camp grounds aren’t open but they can go to the areas where they can camp anywhere and found a nice spot off the road. Ruth, Caleb and I enjoyed some time at home. I took Caleb to a park to play basketball and we ate ice cream. Caleb told me it felt like a normal day as we stopped at the grocery store, since he hadn’t been to a store, school or church for over two months, I am sure it felt different to him. Ruth has enjoyed getting together with some of her friends and visiting. Andrew is doing bike rides most mornings with some friends. Spencer and his friend Jonathan do a Deacon quorum zoom meeting every week. It is mostly the two of them with one or two others joining them. Spencer has also done a lot with Lego and is good at making things with it. Neal works from home. He stays very busy with things. He has found plenty to work on at home that isn’t classified. I have been working outside in the gardens. I also have worked on a quilt I am piecing with scraps of fabric. I laid out the blocks I have completed yesterday and am liking the way it is looking.

I think that is about it. This will be a different summer since so many of our activities have been canceled. Entertainment things are still closed around here too, so no mini golf, swimming or museums. I did see that the zoo will open in mid June for the outdoor areas only. So we might try that. I hope everyone is surviving this pandemic time and enjoying the slower pace of life.
