Happy Valentine's Day

The sun came out!  We had another cold spell this week and it is so nice to see the sun shining this afternoon.  We had a 2 hour delay to school start time this morning.  The decision was made last night by the district because of the weather report of an ice storm coming, well we didn’t get it in our area.  The roads were dry this morning and not even overly cold.  But we enjoyed having a little extra time together this morning.  Andrew bought a rubber band bracelet kit and the kids were busy making things this morning. It is nice that Andrew is sharing with everyone.  He even made bracelets for himself and his friend that match.

Ruth was excited to go pick up her new glasses last week.  They look cute on her and fit her face better than her last pair.  She is growing and needed to order adult frames, not kid ones.  I also finished making a skirt for her and she loves it.  Saturday she went to a party for her friend.  It was at a bowling alley and she had fun with that.  Neal went with her and he enjoyed bowling a game too.

Andrew worked hard last week on a independent research project for his GT class. For some reason he hadn’t been putting forth the effort to do it in class and hadn’t done much on his research.  His teacher gave him a week to have something done or just not get a score for doing it.  It is hard that GT doesn’t really get graded but I felt it was important for him to do it and learn that he shouldn’t waste time in class.  So he worked hard on it and said that his oral presentation on Monday went well.  I was proud of him to get up in front of the class and talk about what he learned about anglerfish.  Sunday Andrew was sick to his stomach and I stayed home from church with him.  He was feeling fine by that evening and was able to go to school this week.

Andrew's poster for his project.  He drew all the pictures on it.  He does well in art.

Spencer gave a talk in Primary on Sunday.  I had helped him write the talk.  At least he told me what to type and I did.  He then practiced it a few times so he could get up and read it by himself.  He did great I understand and said it didn’t bother him at all to get up in front of people.

Caleb had fun going to his preschool Valentine party Monday.  He likes his friends and is always happy to go.  He has been listening to the Sesame Street ABC album a lot.  He can even sing most of the songs on it too.  He has been intent on building and rearranging train tracks in the family room.  He gets it worked out and then the older boys come home and see how he has redone their layouts from the day before.  He loves trains.

Friday evening Neal enjoyed building a fire and then trying out his dutch ovens.  He cooked a cobbler and corn bread in the fireplace.  He wants to keep working on this and prefect his cooking techniques.  Saturday for breakfast Neal and Ruth cooked outside using a little rocket stove that Ruth had made one time at an Activity Days.  They enjoyed learning more how the little stove would work.  We enjoyed having the missionaries over for dinner that evening.  They asked how they could serve us and Neal answered that they could continue to be good examples to young boys.

I enjoyed getting flowers from Neal on Monday.  It is fun that he brings them to me the week of Valentines day.  I appreciate being remembered.  I read in the newspaper that this is a cold winter for our area.  We have had an average temperature of 44 degrees and over 52 nights below freezing.  We have broke all kinds of records for cold this winter.  So it isn’t just me feeling like it is cold.  I can’t wait for spring to start warming things up!
