Happy Family

The year is passing so quickly.  The kids are getting excited about their school year ending.  They are making lots of plans for summer.  This week they made a bug habitat from a shoe box.  They caught a caterpillar and are watching to see what happens.  Neal helped them put some wire mesh on the top of the box.  I am sure they will have fun with it.

Last week I went to a meeting at the Intermediate school.  Ruth will be going there next year for 5th grade.  Ruth also got to go on a tour of the school.  She is really excited about going there.  She was very impressed with their library and excited to explore it more.  It will be hard for me to have her move on from the elementary school.

Last Thursday and Friday we had a cold snap.  I was thankful it didn’t hurt my garden.  The garden is growing well.  We are enjoying lettuce and spinach from it right now.  The yellow squash plant has about 10 squash growing on it right now.  So soon we will be over loaded with that!  We are enjoying seeing the flowers grow too.  It has been a pretty spring time.  I am thankful that the grass is finally greening up.  I mowed it Friday afternoon and Neal was able to trim it Saturday.  It looks pretty good, even with all the dirt spots through out.

Last Friday for play group we still went to the park, even with the cold.  It was just a pretty day with the sun shine.  We wore our coats and had fun visiting and playing with the others that came out.  Then today we were at the park after walking and I got hot.  This weather is bouncing around too much.

Friday evening I made pizza.  We like doing it about once a month.  This time Andrew and Caleb helped with it.  It was cute to watch them working together to put the toppings on.  Caleb is wanting to help with things more.  He does well with setting the table and unloading the dishwasher.

Saturday was a busy day with house work and caring for the kids.  In the afternoon I took the kids to get frozen yogurt.  Ruth and Andrew had straight A’s on their last report card and 3 Spoons Yogurt gives the kids free yogurt for good grades.  We enjoyed our treat together.  That evening we went to a ward dinner and had fun seeing friends there.  Neal was busy working all day and we missed having him with us.

Sunday I taught Relief Society and it went well.  That afternoon Caleb was playing with the little binoculars he had made at story time last week and they came apart.  He held them up and said “my eye balls broke!”  It was so funny.  Sunday morning Neal helped Ruth make waffles.  It was the first time she was in charge of the waffle iron and she did a great job cooking them.  That afternoon Neal worked with Andrew to make cookies.  He was trying to take time with the kids and I think they all enjoyed it.

Spencer has been counting.  Some days he just keeps counting and counting.  He got up 189 once and then lost track of where he was.  He is trying so hard to learn to read too and likes to point out words he knows by sight.  He also likes to sing where ever he goes.  Caleb got to see a train on Monday.  We don’t often see one at the crossings, but that morning as we approached the crossing a train came.  We were front in line and got a good view of the big cars.  It was fun to hear Caleb so excited about seeing a train so close.  Then the last car was a green box car.  I told Caleb that was for him, because he loves green.

Tuesday I took Andrew into the dentist and he had 2 baby teeth pulled.  It was a bit traumatic for both Andrew and me.  I felt so bad he had to go through that.  He did really well though.  The dentist said that Andrew did better than many grown ups.  He held so still and let them pull his teeth out.  He had them removed to help his teeth have more space to come in.  In about 6 months we will go back and they will start working with spacers to help his teeth come in better.  This was on recommendation of the orthodontist we went to.  I felt good about it and hope that it helps him so he wont have more major orthodontic work done later.  In the afternoon, after his mouth wasn’t numb any more, we went and got some ice cream at Wendy’s.  He liked that.  He is doing fine today and was able to go to school. While Andrew was at the dentist Caleb played at a friends home They had fun together.  Caleb especially liked that they have a dog.

I am thankful for my children and the time I have with them.  They are all growing up so quickly.
