Family Time

I think the biggest thing this week was the Father and Son’s camp out on Friday night.  Neal has been so busy with work but I felt he really needed to go and spend time with the boys.  So I worked hard to get everything ready for them.  Neal came home from work Friday about 4:30 and looked over everything I had for them and got his personal things ready and then they were off about 5:30.  They had a nice time together.  I know it was a lot of work for Neal but also a good time for him to spend time with the boys.  The weather was nice for them too.  They went to a ranch of a church member in our Stake.  There is a camping area at the ranch where the Stake men and boys were.  I heard there was an excellent turnout this year.  Saturday morning Neal let the boys play in the water of a shallow river close by.  Then they went for a walk.  He remembered to take pictures this year and it looked like a beautiful place.

Saturday the boys got home in the early afternoon.  Andrew and Caleb were asleep and stayed that way for a few hours.  Spencer was cheerful, talkative and was singing.  He was fun to listen to.  When Andrew woke up he had a head ache and fever.  I wondered if he had been bothered by the heat (it had gotten up to 90 degrees that day).  He rested Sunday too and felt fine by Sunday evening.

After the boys played in the water Neal was washing off their feet to get into the car and they got into ants.  Caleb has the most ant bites.  I guess the older boys know what they are and move and brush them off.  Caleb has bites all over and has had a hard time with it.  On Monday he was outside with me in the yard and saw an ant and started to cry.  He ran into the house and just happened to see a fly and an ant in the kitchen.  He was all upset and said we shouldn’t have flies and ants in the house.  “We should only have butterflies.  Why can’t we have butterflies in the house?”  It was really cute.  He loves to sing and it is fun to listen to him.

Friday after the boys left, Ruth and I had our time together.  We went out to dinner and then went to a play.  Neal and I had bought tickets for the musical “Oklahoma!” about two months ago.  Then we found out about the camp out.  I took Ruth to the musical and we enjoyed the evening together.  She loved the story and was swept away with the music.  It was fun to be with her as she experienced the play for the first time.  Saturday morning was quiet for us.  Ruth got out the VHS tape I have of “Oklahoma!” and we had fun watching it again.  Well, she watched it while I was working on other things, but I enjoyed listening to the music again.  It was nice to spend some time with Ruth.

Sunday since Andrew wasn’t feeling well I stayed home from church with him.  I got on the computer and had fun exploring the church web site of “Family Tree.”  It was neat to see all the connections and family genealogy.  It was also fun to see the pictures and read some of the stories that my dad has linked onto ancestors.  He has done a lot of work with that.

Monday we had a nice FHE.  I think the high light was watching the kids play “Simon Says” and hearing Caleb say some pretty crazy things to do when it was his turn.  He is a silly kid and he loves to tease.  He was laughing so hard we had a hard time understanding some of the things he would say.  We then went outside and played a game of freeze tag with the kids.  It was a beautiful evening and nice to be outside with everyone.

Tuesday afternoon we had a bad storm come through the area.  We are fine, in fact we only got about a half inch of rain.  But it was very dark and that always worries me.  I think the storm hit harder north of us.

Saturday I got some apricots from the Bountiful Basket program.  Today I was able to bottle them up.  I did 5 pints of jam and 3 quarts of fruit.  I like apricots.  I made a cobbler the other day that we all enjoyed.  It has been fun to eat them fresh too.  Our garden is growing well and we are getting things from it, mostly squash!  I have also picked green beans, peas, lettuce and spinach this week.  Everything is looking so green right now.  I like this time of year when everything is growing and the world is so beautiful.  I am enjoying all my flowers too.

The cactus in the corner of our garden area, it was so pretty with the flowers Sunday.  The flowers only last a day and they are fun to watch for this time of year.

My roses are blooming!  They smell so good!

Our back yard just looked extra green to me.

I have really enjoyed this bush.  These little blue flowers are on it all summer long.
