Kids Kids Kids

The days are passing quickly.  Last week I decided that I wanted to give away the futon.  It had a crack in the main support beam and I was worried about moving it, I didn’t want it to break completely.  So I posted on a facebook group that I am on for free things in the area.  I had someone respond quickly and she came over with her three teen age boys to take it away. They brought a mini van to carry it in.  I didn’t think they would get it in there, but they did!  It was rather entertaining to watch them try different ways to get it in.  They finally took out the back seat of the van, put the futon in, then put the seat on top of the futon.  Then the four people squeezed into the van.  I hope they didn’t have far to drive.  It is nice to not have to worry about that now.  I have been giving other small things away and going through things and deciding what is going with us when we move.  It is a lot of work.

We have had some fun this week too.  Friday we went to the spray pad and met up with some friends there.  The kids had lots of fun playing in the water.  On Saturday we went to the museum.  We were able to listen to a presentation from a paleontologist on T. Rex.  It was interesting and the kids hopefully learned something more about one of their favorite dinosaurs.  Then we spent a little time looking at the dinosaur exhibit.  That afternoon we went to a jumping place for a friends birthday party.  It was a busy day!

Sunday was Father’s Day.  I took the kids to church and felt a little sad their father wasn’t there to hear them sing with the other primary children.  I gave a talk in Sacrament meeting and felt good about how it went.  It had been a busy week and I had a hard time finding time to prepare, so I am glad it is over.  After church the kids drew pictures for Neal and wrote some cute little notes for him.  We sent it in the mail Monday.  Neal did call us in the afternoon and we all got a chance to talk to him.  Neal is doing okay with his new job.  He has found a house for us to rent and has moved into it.  We are still working on finalizing details about a move date and getting that all organized.

The boys like to build huts when I am washing their bedding

Monday we had fun with our cousins coming.  Neal’s sister came up from San Antonio with her 8 children.  Their dad wasn’t with them because of work commitments.  So it was 2 moms with 12 kids for three days.  It was busy, but fun.  The kids had so much fun playing together.  They brought toy swords and there was a lot of sword fighting going on outside.  They also played a lot of board games and watched movies.  Tuesday morning we went to the zoo.  It was neat to see the new baby orangoutang.  I read in the newspaper that Monday was the first day the baby was out on display, so it was neat we got to see it.  It was so cute.  We also got to see the new juvenile giraffes.  I enjoyed walking through the zoo again.  We have gone so many times while we have lived here.  I know a lot about the animals and I know where everything is, so do my kids.  We will miss our little zoo.

I thought it was more interesting to see the kids at the zoo and how they watched the animals.

The new baby, it was almost like the mom was showing her baby off to us.  Then the dad came and stood in front of her blocking our view, like he was protecting the baby.  It was really neat.

Wednesday morning I took the kids that wanted to go over to the park for a summer kick off party the city library was doing.  I had six kids with me, ages 4,5,6,7,8, and 9.  We thought it was good we had all the ages covered.  The kids enjoyed playing the games and getting lots of little prizes.  They had fun playing on the play ground too.  That afternoon the kids all went outside to play in the water.  It was a bit crazy at times, but they all had fun getting wet.  After they had been outside for about an hour I cut up a watermelon in slices and went out with it.  I have never seen a watermelon disappear so quickly before.  I was surprised at how fast 10 kids can eat a medium sized seedless watermelon.  I think it was gone in under 10 minutes!  I am glad they enjoyed the it.  They had fun outside and it wore them out. In the evening I took Andrew and his cousin over to cub scouts at the church.  Andrew wanted to go because he has new den leaders.  He enjoyed going last night.  This morning the cousins left to go back home.  I am glad they were able to come and play one more time at this home.  We enjoyed having them here.

The kids had fun at the park library activity.

The girls, they were a bit outnumbered.

The boys, minus the baby.

Today has been quieter.  The kids seemed to need some quiet time and they were all doing things alone for awhile this morning.  I also got their help to clean the house.  Having 14 people in my little house made it get a bit dirtier than normal.  We got it looking good and then I took my kids to the library free movie showing “Planes.”  It was a cute movie, we hadn’t seen it before.

The kids are all sleeping and I finally had some time to myself, so I took time to write.  I am thankful that things are going well and progressing in our transition, but wish it could just be over with!

We are excited to have my sister and her daughter come for a visit this week end.  It is great they could come see us.  I always enjoy visitors.
