Ruth enjoys hanging out with her friends. She had an evening with friends at the Abbott’s home earlier this month. Last Saturday she went with friends to a school dance. She told me afterwards they didn’t dance, they just sat and talked at the refreshment area. I am thankful she has friends. She enjoys her young women’s group too. She is now a Laurel and likes being with a large group of girls, I think she said there were 16 in the the Laurel’s class. I went with Ruth to the Young Women’s New Beginnings night. They welcomed in the new girls and it was a nice evening.
Andrew, Spencer and Caleb enjoyed going to train club on the 12th. Micah went with them, since we were still babysitting the kids. He thought it was fun to see the trains too. The kids had box car race. They had brought their own box cars to race. Andrew spent a lot of time with his, getting it built and working with the wheels to run smooth. The extra effort paid off, he won the race. The grand prize was a new HO engine and he was pretty excited about it.
Andrew and Spencer are keeping busy with scouts. They have been attending a special merit badge class for “Citizenship in the Nation.” One of the requirements had the boys watching or reading the national news for five days, that was eye opening for them. I try to keep up on some of the news but learning things with them was good. With the changes of the kids moving up as a age group in the church the boys had a lot of changes this month. Andrew was ordained a Teacher and Spencer was ordained a Deacon. They have been good about being responsible with helping with the sacrament. Spencer also received a limit use temple recommend. Last Friday Neal took Ruth, Andrew and Spencer to the temple. It was a special time for them. I was home with Caleb. I am thankful for my good kids.
Caleb is enjoying going to cub scouts. This last month we worked on the “Adventure in Coins” and are half way through doing the “Code of the Wolf”. I work with a fun group of boys. I had a change in what primary class I am teaching for the new year. Caleb’s age group has 12 kids in it. Last year I taught one class of six of them, including Caleb, this year I am teaching the other six kids. It is fun to get to know the kids Caleb’s age.

Andrew is involved with the school band. He enjoyed performing at the State music conference with the jazz band. Last week the symphonic band visited the three elementary schools that feed into their school to introduce band to the fifth graders. Andrew had a fun day with his friends. Last Monday Andrew and I went to the high school to an open house for the incoming freshmen. Andrew will be starting high school next year and he wants to be in the band. We had a good visit with the band director Monday evening. He was happy to hear a trombone player was going to come to the school. Band is a huge commitment here because early morning marching band is required for all band students. Andrew says he is ready for it and is excited to get involved with it. Monday Andrew also was awarded a “Work Ethic” award at the school. About 10 kids from the 8th grade received this award. Some of Andrew’s friends were in the group. They are a good group of boys.

I enjoyed a book club with the ward. It was good to get with friends and discuss ideas. I also went to a Stake Relief Society conference last Saturday. It was good to be with the sisters and hear some good lessons and have time to socialize. I am thankful for the church and the friendships I have through it.
I hope everyone is enjoying a good beginning to 2019.
