Beautiful Fall Day

It is my birthday today. I thought I would take time to write, a quiet activity, and not do other work that needs to be done. So far it has been a nice day. Neal brought me flowers Monday evening and they have been pretty to look at. This morning he fixed me some breakfast before he left for work. He plans on fixing dinner tonight. We will also have the sister missionaries come over this evening to eat. It should make for a fun evening. Caleb has been so excited about another birthday to celebrate and has given me countless hugs today. He is having fun playing with his friend Charlie right now, who we are watching for the afternoon (it is their early out day at school.) The weather is nice and I enjoyed seeing hot air balloons this morning.

On Saturday the 22nd Caleb had fun going to a birthday party for a friend from school, Evan. They went to the Hinkle Family fun center and played some fun activities there. That same day we went to a park for an activity for Caleb’s gifted class. They invited the families to get together and get to know each other better. Caleb had fun playing at the park with friends while I visited with some parents. We left the park and drove to the west side of the city to Thane and Judy's home. They had invited us over for a BBQ and we enjoyed visiting with them that evening. They have a large telescope and we enjoyed looking at the full moon and planets.

Ruth has had some fun things going on too. She went to a Stake youth game night on September 21st and enjoyed playing card games with her friends, and eating M&M’s. Last Friday she started a Cotillion activity. It is sponsored by the Stake and will last for eight weeks. They are learning some basic dances, like waltz and swing. They are also going over etiquette and just having fun. It was something we signed up for, they are trying to keep the numbers equal between boys and girls so everyone has a partner. I thought it sounded fun and got Ruth to do it. She seemed to enjoy the first night of it. She went to the school play with a friend, Emily, last week and enjoyed that. Saturday Ruth told me that Emily was hired at Kumon, where Ruth works, and Emily offered to give Ruth rides, she has a car. Ruth thought it was fun that another friend will work with her. She has many friends.

Sunday the 23rd we had the Primary Program at church. The kids did a nice job with their parts and everyone sang well.  On Tuesday we had a cub scout Pack meeting. Cub scouts keeps me busy with planning activities for the boys every week. Last night we had a den meeting and the boys were very active. I feel pretty tired afterwards.

The boys like piling on each other

Andrew and Spencer went on a Boy Scout camp out last week with Neal. Friday after school they drove to Mount Taylor, about two hours west of us. They camped and Saturday they were manning an aid/water station for a 30K race in the mountains. The scouts enjoyed helping the runners and from the pictures it looks like they were in a beautiful place.

Friday morning I went to the temple with my friend, Roxanne. When we drove home Roxanne asked if her son Jonathan could be with my family on the camp out. It was going to be Jonathan’s first camp out without his dad with him and Roxanne wanted to make sure he was comfortable with it all. She told me that Jonathan likes being with Spencer because he can trust that he will always do what is right and never talk about inappropriate things. I thought that was a nice complement to Spencer and how he tries hard to do what is right. Neal told me afterwards that he trusts Jonathan and knew the boys would behave themselves sharing a tent together. They had lots of fun together.

Saturday, on the way home from the camping, the boys stopped at a train open house to see a steam engine and the train club booth with model trains running. They enjoyed seeing it. Andrew has been working on doing the railroading merit badge and is trying to get things done for it. They sure enjoy their trains.

Saturday evening we had a ward red and green chili dinner. It is a fun activity the ward does. Everyone brings a potluck dish that has red or green chili in it. There are some pretty tasty things that come and also some things that are too spicy to eat. I still can’t understand why people like red chili in their chocolate cake, it just doesn’t sound good to me.

We made it to October. I am thankful for the fall. I enjoy the cooler weather and the pretty leaves changing colors. I hope you all can enjoy it too.
